For more movie news, trailers, and interviews go to www.collider.com – Synopsis A contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands sun-drenched beaches. Detective Steve McGarrett (Alex OLoughlin), a decorated Naval officer turned cop, returns to Oahu to investigate his fathers murder and stays after Hawaiis governor persuades him to head up the new team: his rules, her backing, no red tape and full blanket immunity to hunt down the biggest game in town. Joining McGarrett is Detective Danny Danno Williams (Scott Caan), a newly relocated ex-New Jersey cop who prefers skyscrapers to the coastline but is committed to keeping the Islands safe for his 8-year-old daughter; and Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim), an ex-Honolulu Police Detective wrongly accused of corruption and relegated to a federal security patrol, who is also a former protégé of McGarretts father. Chins cousin, Kono (Grace Park), is a beautiful and fearless native, fresh out of the academy and eager to establish herself among the departments elite. McGarrett vows to bring closure to his fathers case while the states brash new FIVE-0 unit, who may spar and jest among themselves, is determined to eliminate the seedy elements from the 50th state. Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

I just hope that this new guy can match or make his own sense of “cool and respect” that Jack Lord gave his character in the original Steve Maggarrett. And, though both Mr. Kim and Ms. Park are incredible actors with great performances – there are more Filipino-Hawaiin actors in Hawaii than Korean-Hawaiin. We had better see a good blend of the peoples that make that state a true paradise.

If you want to make a Hawaii Based Cop Show. DO IT YOURSELF with ORIGINAL IDEAS, TITLE & THEME SONG , Stop Standing on the Shoulders of GIANTS of the Past and Claiming that You Are Great…This Is Nothing But Another WANNABE! An Insult To the Original.

    I just came

Scott Caan has had acting lessons since the “Oceans” series of movies. Let’s hope the camera angle makes him look taller.

Agreed, intro theme needs more bass in the drumline, it’s almost silly as is.

Shoot locations add cost; so if this doesn’t make so cash early, look for production values and plotlines to suffer.

Same writer’s group as “Fringe?” Really? Let’s hope those guys have had lessons in the interim as well.

This is the second attempt at a reboot. Kill it now… please?

The only thing wrong with this new series is a tiny girl that weighs all of 90 lbs soaking wet trying to act all tough. Yuck. I’ll skip this series till she gets killed off. Little girls do not beat up big men, Never have and never will. It’s not entertaining, it’s just stupid. She is cute though. Maybe she could be a crossing guard or something.

    I love Grace Park! :) )

This theme version sounds predating the original by 30 years or more! it sounds as if some kid put it together in 10 minutes on his laptop! I wudn even use it on my mobile phone! I only hope for the producers sake this takes off as it with an iconic show and cast as the original!.. It has a lot to to go up against! Apart from this theme tune I am yet to be impressed by the look of the video and it’s present cast but then again who can come near the unique look and presence of the man. Jack Lord

  10. therestorationmusic says:

I appreciate the homage, but what’s so ironic about this lame “hard rock version” of the theme is that the music and production techniques of the 60s are experiencing a resurgence right now in pop culture as many musicians and listeners are rejecting the chuggy, over-driven leftovers of 90s grunge rock (and the following decade that drove it into the ground).

The result: this theme song sounds instantly more dated than the original. Guess only more time will tell.

long time fan of the tee original (they shot it in my neighborhood), i’ll give it chance but it is not coming on the right way so far,,,we’ll see!

Should be fantastic! I hope they can do it justice but at the same time bring a great new style to it!

  13. AMBASSODOR says:

There is no man walking this earth that could replace ” JACK LORD ” in the role of Steve Mgarett, no man has the same “presence” This show will be a flop wait and see.

  14. Azishome says:

@praises9700 You express my initial sentiment. But I’m going to give it a chance despite the weak theme opening. But what I miss most is porky old Kam Fong. Now HE was Chin Ho Kelly.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. chloeemily says:

Looking forward to seeing the new version of the show, but I don’t like the revised theme song. They have the form, but the substance is too bland and the chord selections are just weird. Change for change sake is not always a good thing.

  17. Manuwamahiai says:

There changing the name of Hawaii five o it Hawaii five zero (0)

  18. tvnutboy says:

I wanna give them an A for effort, but to me, this just looks like “CSI: Hawaii”

  19. Radazzle8 says:

I really like this theme song. I’m excited and looking forward to seeing the talented and fantastic cast on Hawaii Five-O beginning Sept. 20, 2010 on CBS.

  20. DagmarSLNY says:

@screenwriter44 Did you actually view several episodes of the new show and, if so, how as it has not been released yet?

  21. rkmugen says:

Visuals are perfect. Music is a little lacking though…. Instead, they should just use Sylvain Cloux’s metal version of the opening song. Edgier, up-to-date, cleaner sounding, and full-length.

  22. antinotis says:

Like the visuals but hate the music; it’s tinny and too short. Just use the old music and make it longer. It is a retro show after all. I also fear it is going to be too A-Teamish and not really a crime show.

  23. headlesscritic says:

They need to make it longer. I don’t think an extra 15 to 20 seconds would kill them.

  24. MacadamiaMac says:

I prefer the original music over this. Even Brian Setzer & Dweezil Zappa’s renditions are better than this music. At least those guys used REAL instruments. This is one of the all-time classic TV musical themes so why all the synthesizer noises? Did Jan Hammer do this music…ala Miami Vice? This isn’t the rock version; it’s the fake version.

  25. MacadamiaMac says:

    @screenwriter44
The Ventures recorded “Hawaii Five-0″ and it was a hit single in 1973. But their version of the song was never used for the show. The show was on nearly 5 years before the Ventures made their recording. The opening theme music was recorded by an orchestra as directed by the song’s composer, Mort Stevens.
